About Hellens

Group visits

Opening times
The house is open for group visits from Easter to the end of September. If possible, we prefer visiting groups to come on Wednesday or Thursday mornings but we are happy to consider other times as well. Please ask. The house is NOT available for group visits during public opening times, which are Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons.

The minimum charge for a group visit is £100 – this charge is for up to 20 people. There is an extra charge of £5 per person for more that 20 people. We are unable to offer concessions for group visits. Please phone us on 01531 660504 to book your group tour.

Teas
We can provide tea/coffee and biscuits or cake at extra cost. You are welcome to have this on arrival, or after your tour. Please let us know in advance which option you require and when you would like to be served. Please note: Numbers must be confirmed in advance of your visit and that number must be paid for. Please let us know if you have special dietary requirements:

Catering

School visitsHellens and the national Curriculum
Hellens has created and is developing projects for use by teachers that are linked to the National Curriculum Key Stages 1 and 2.

Facilities for your visit
To help with your study of the Tudors we offer:
* Tudor and Stuart Clothes: beautiful replicas have been made of costumes worn by rich young people in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
* Medieval Herb Garden.
* Crime and Punishment in Tudor Times.
* Teachers are welcome to plan work in advance of their school visit with the staff at Hellens.

Opening times
School groups are welcome throughout the year, by prior appointment. Access to the house might be limited between October and Easter when the house is closed to the public.

The oldest parts of Hellens date from Tudor times, with Jacobean and Stuart additions. It is a family house still occupied today. The Audley Tower contains a rare survival of a Tudor wooden spiral staircase.
